An old zombie wearing a straw cowboy hat is slowly drifting towards the person viewing the image in a faded camouflage-colored fishing kayak. He is standing up in the kayak holding his fishing pole with the line dangling in the water. In the other hand he is holding a dead, decaying rat by its tail. He has dark, piercing eyes. The zombie fisherman is wearing a plaid Wrangler cowboy snap shirt with the sleeves rolled up just above his elbows. The background color of the plaid is cobalt blue with white and yellow lines. His shirt-tail is extra long and comes down to the middle of his thighs, and just an inch of his baggy white boxer shorts are peeking out from under the shirt. He’s wearing worn out, brown leather cowboy boots. There is a wooden paddle sticking out of a holder on one side of the kayak. On the other side, in another large holder is an old two-liter bottle of Sprite. A mysterious lime-green mist is wafting out of it. On the front end of the kayak is a dried up bottle of Berkley lime twist PowerBait with the lid off and an open bag of David brand sunflower seeds. The perspective is as if the viewer were paddling toward the zombie fisherman with a flashlight shining on him. All around is dark and spooky looking. The water is dark and full of sewage and trash. Flies are buzzing around the zombie in the light. He has a big, toothy, sinister grin. One of his front teeth is silver and the light is glinting off of it. Tool: ChatGPT Winner: Ashley Frost Week 5 Theme: Kaleidoscope Amusement Park Prompt: Create an image of a 1950s amusement park. Everything is in geometric shapes like a kaleidoscope. Snacks like popcorn and cotton candy fly through the air. A roller coaster is seen around the edge. The image is symmetrical. "digital art" Tool: Bing Image Creator Winner: Sadie Manis Week 6 Theme: Life Under a Microscope Prompt: Cells shaped like galaxies, DNA strands glowing like neon ribbons, tears made of viruses and antibodies, DNA double helix unraveling into hearts and skulls, bright neon colors, have something symbolizing the good and bad going in and out of our DNA Tool: ChatGPT Winner: Victoria Smith Week 7 Theme: Fusion Lab: Convergence of Plants and Animals Prompt: A surreal, high-tech greenhouse laboratory under a moody, overcast sky, with rain dew trailing down the glass ceiling above. In the center sits a large cylindrical tank containing a frog-shaped plant, sculpted entirely from intertwining vines, moss, petals, and leaves. The plant-frog uses every color of the rainbow, but all in dull, muted tones — olive greens, dusty reds, faded blues, soft purples, etc. The frog is in a calm, seated position, holding a small, bark-and-petal-bound book titled “AI”. The book glows faintly with bioluminescent light, casting a soft shimmer onto the frog’s leafy face. Around the tank, shelves hold hybrid plant specimens in glass jars — some with roots writhing gently, others in stasis. The lab is dimly lit with glowing control panels and subtle signs of nature creeping into the tech — moss edging the machines and vines snaking near outlets. The whole scene feels like a quiet, mysterious intersection of botany, biology, and futuristic intellect. Can we have the glow of the book shine from the inside so it lights up his face? We make a different name to the book he’s reading, I want him to be reading an autobiography but make it AI themed since that’s where he’s came from Tool: ChatGPT Winner: Uriah Flores Week 8 Theme: Aliens Among Us Prompt: : Create an image in an Art Nouveau style: flowing lines, organic shapes, floral motifs, and soft, decorative elegance. Have a very beautiful sage green skinned alien wearing lily of the valley flowers on her head. She will also be wearing a flowy, beige empire dress with a ruffled off-shoulder strap. She will be sitting on the grass, below the a cherry blossom tree laughing with her human friend. Her human friend is also very beautiful, wearing a dark red velvet empire dress. The human will have long dark brown hair, tan skin, and amber eyes. In her hair, she will have red, orange, and yellow flowers on head. The human will be fidgeting with a light orange chrysanthemum while smiling at a joke her alien friend is laughing at. They both have the expression of happiness and endearment. Have the alien and human be surround by a field of flowers and numerous green plants. Tool: ChatGPT

A one-time training is required for all tutors to attend prior to participating (see “Volunteer Now” page). Registration deadline: April 30, 2025. More information about volunteering. Why was America Reads founded? In 1996, President Clinton launched the nationwide program America Reads with the goal of ensuring that every kid could read proficiently by the end of the third grade after research had shown that 40% of children were not reading at a basic level. Since that announcement, each summer, the Weber County Library offers the one-on-one tutoring program. The America Reads program is open to all elementary school children in the Weber County area, and is specially designed for children who may need additional help with reading. Research has shown that children who cannot read at grade level by the third grade are unlikely to ever overcome this disadvantage. However, research has also shown that intervention during the first eight years of a child’s life can have a significant positive effect on reading skills. With now over 1,000 students participating each year, the Weber County Library America Reads program provides children with weekly 30 minutes reading sessions with trained volunteers for 8 weeks, during the months of June and July. Children are encouraged to add new words to their vocabulary, read for comprehension, and make use of the library’s many resources at every session. At the end of the tutoring program, students, families and volunteers enjoy a literacy celebration.
