Children Summer Reading Benefits Eight out of ten studies indicate students who read recreationally out-perform those who don’t, and by the end of 6th grade, children who lose reading skills over the summer are two years behind their classmates (Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction). To promote continued reading, children ages 0-12 can participate in this free program. For more information, call 801-337-2639. Here's how the summer reading program works: Win prizes for every 14 days you read or are read to at home once you have registered. Track reading time on your log beginning May 27 and ending August 9. First prizes will be given out beginning June 9. Collect all prizes by August 9.
