The Invitation
Many library systems talk about the future; Weber County has the resources, the community backing, and the institutional courage to build it. The Board of Trustees is seeking a thoughtful, creative, and highly capable Library Director to lead our award-winning system.
As our Library Director, you will partner closely with a supportive Board of Trustees and county officials to guide our entire organization. We are looking for a director who balances a deep passion for librarianship with the mindset of an executive, someone who sees budgets, modern facilities, and evolving technologies as creative tools to empower our community.
For a leader who believes that public libraries belong at the absolute intersection of learning, technology, culture, and civic connection, Weber County offers an incredibly rich and rewarding setting.

The Leader We Seek
We are searching for an inspiring, collaborative leader who sees public libraries as the heart of a thriving community. Our next Director is someone who naturally bridges worlds, moving easily from an authentic conversation with a community resident on the library floor to a strategic budget meeting with county officials.
You view our beautiful spaces, extensive collections, and passionate staff not as separate entities to manage, but as a unified launchpad for lifelong learning. You are genuinely curious about the future of information, embracing tools such as digital literacy and our new AI services because they serve a meaningful public purpose, not simply because they are novel. Guided by empathy and sound financial judgment, you will champion equity, protect patron privacy, and safeguard intellectual freedom with a steady, thoughtful, and unifying presence.
The Background You Bring
-
Education: A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.

-
Preferred: A second Master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) or an equivalent degree is highly valued, particularly with preparation in organizational leadership, finance, and operations. Equivalent executive leadership experience, including demonstrated experience working with elected officials and governing boards, may also be considered.
Compensation & Benefits
-
Salary Range: $128,460–$199,113, reflecting your unique qualifications and experience.
-
Benefits: A comprehensive, supportive package including excellent medical, dental, vision, Utah Retirement Systems pension benefits, 401k match, generous sick/vacation/holidays, life insurance, short-term disability, accident, critical illness, medical maternity, parental leave, wellness programs, and professional development.
Ready to Begin?
If you are ready to lead a system with the funding, freedom, and community support to truly innovate, we welcome your application.
Please submit a current resume and a thoughtful cover letter showing your leadership philosophy and vision for public library service.
