United States Social Security Death Index (FamilySearch.org)
This resource uses data from the Social Security Administration to provide information such as the social security number, birth and death dates, and place of death for more than 76 million individuals. The index includes death information from 1962 to the present (excluding the last three years) and may be searched by name, life events, or family relationships. It currently contains 50 percent of deceased persons from 1962 to 1971 and 85 percent of deceased persons from 1972 to 2005. Users must create a free account with FamilySearch.org to view search results.
