Two stories become entwined in this illuminated novel-within-a-novel. In 1843, naturalist Zadock Thomas travels to Texas, sketching the wildlife he sees along the way. An encounter with bats leads him into the unknown. Three hundred years later, Zeke Thomas is swept up by a rebellion threatening the republic state where he lives. Illustrations and intricate interior design bring both stories to life. Winner of PRINT’s 2016 Regional Design Award for the Southwest.
