House Made of Dawn by N. Scott Momaday

Abel returns from military service to find he no longer has a home that welcomes him.  He isn’t at home in the world of his Native American heritage, but he’s also not at home in the industrial world of modern America.  As he tries to adapt to both, Abel falls prey to a destructive cycle of depravity and disgust.  In 1969, Momaday became the first Native American author to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
